Down by the sea, Pier House awaits you with a warm welcome. This traditional waterfront property is tucked away between the cobbled streets and the sea, overlooking the picturesque harbour of Stromness. Residents benefit from use of a private pier and walled garden with seating area from where they can enjoy views down Scapa Flow and towards Hoy.
The house, built from local stone around 1800, has been carefully refurbished and decorated to provide comfort and warmth to our residents, whilst retaining a strong sense of character. It’s not difficult to envisage a bygone age here, in the “Hamnavoe” of old, complete with smugglers, pirates, sailing ships and those seeking refuge from the press gangs of the time.
Pier House is spacious, sleeping six people comfortably. There are four ample bedrooms: two double, one twin, one single. The accommodation is spread over three floors with kitchen/dining room and sitting room on the “ground floor” (which is also in an elevated position as it is above a large cellar). This makes for completely unrestricted views from all rooms in the house. The shower room and two bedrooms are on the middle floor, leaving two bedrooms on the top floor. The atmosphere is airy with plenty of natural light and all rooms are cosy and comfortable. Bed linen and towels are provided free of charge and electricity is charged on a non-profit “pay for what you’ve used” basis.
Pier House is well equipped, with all mod cons, including washing machine, tumble drier, electric cooker and oven, microwave, refrigerator, television, vacuum cleaner, DVD/Video player (and various videos titles to choose from) Hi-Fi etc. There is a washing line outside in the garden. A variety of toys and games are provided for children, as well as high chair and travel cot/bedding. Pier House is non-smoking and we do not accept pets. Many additional features make this house especially well loved by returning guests:
